A Nigerian content creator arrested over the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman has publicly pleaded for forgiveness, describing the incident as “a terrible mistake” as police continue their investigation into the case.
The suspect, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,“ was arrested by the Delta State Police Command following allegations that he lured Favour Agbro, a 20-year-old nursing student, to Asaba under the pretext of mentoring her in content creation before allegedly raping and assaulting her. Police said the woman later died after reportedly ingesting a toxic substance.
A video circulating on social media shows the suspect in police custody making an emotional appeal to the victim’s family.
“This is a terrible mistake; I’m ready to give up everything. Please forgive me,” he said in the video.
The circumstances surrounding the statement have not been independently verified, and the police have not indicated whether it forms part of the official investigation.
According to the Delta State Police Command, the suspect was arrested after a petition alleged that the victim travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, having been invited by the content creator, who allegedly promised to train her through a programme advertised on his social media platforms. Police alleged that he lodged her in a hotel, where she was sexually assaulted and physically abused.
The police said the victim later returned home in distress and recounted the alleged incident to her family before she subsequently died while receiving medical treatment after ingesting a poisonous substance. Investigators added that efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest and said detectives have intensified investigations. Authorities urged members of the public to allow the legal process to run its course and avoid spreading unverified information that could prejudice the case.
As of the time of filing this report, the suspect had not been convicted by any court, and no formal judgment has been delivered on the allegations. The case remains under investigation.
