Banky W opens up on wife Adesua’s IVF journey

Popular Nigerian singer, actor, and politician Banky W has spoken candidly about the emotional and physical challenges he and his wife, actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington, faced during their struggle to have children through IVF treatments.

In an emotional interview shared on May 1, 2026, the couple reflected on their difficult fertility journey, including multiple unsuccessful In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) attempts and the heartbreak of pregnancy loss before eventually becoming parents.

Banky W described his wife’s resilience throughout the process as deeply inspiring, saying she endured experiences that could have emotionally broken many people.

“I’ve seen her endure things that would break people,” he said while recounting the years they spent trying to conceive. “We went through IVF cycle after IVF cycle and sometimes it didn’t work, but she kept going back, staying strong, and doing everything the doctors recommended.”

According to the singer, watching Adesua repeatedly undergo injections, medical procedures, and emotional setbacks changed his outlook on marriage, sacrifice, and family responsibilities.

He also praised her for temporarily stepping away from her successful acting career during the challenging period, noting that her commitment to building their family strengthened his admiration for her.

The couple, who got married in 2017, had previously shared details about losing a twin pregnancy to miscarriage — a painful experience Adesua once described as “wailing” rather than simply crying.

During the interview, they also addressed the pressures of public scrutiny and online speculation surrounding their inability to conceive at the time.

Adesua revealed in previous conversations that the repeated medical procedures took a significant toll on her body, including damage to her veins from constant blood tests and intravenous treatments.

Despite the emotional pain and online criticism they faced, the couple said the experience ultimately deepened their faith and strengthened their bond.

Their perseverance eventually led to the birth of their first son, Hazaiah, also known as Zaya, in 2021. The couple have since welcomed a second child.

Adesua credited her husband’s support during the difficult years as one of the reasons she was able to keep moving forward after each disappointment.

The interview has generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians commending the couple for openly discussing infertility, miscarriage, and IVF struggles — topics that are often considered sensitive in many African societies.

Observers say the couple’s openness continues to help normalize conversations around reproductive health and fertility challenges while encouraging couples facing similar experiences to seek support and remain hopeful.
