Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma to ensure that the forthcoming Osun State governorship election is conducted peacefully and without interference.
In a message shared on social media, the singer said he had heard “rumours” suggesting there were moves to influence the outcome of the election and urged the governor to allow the people of Osun State to freely elect their preferred candidate. Davido’s appeal comes amid heightened political tension ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election.
“I’ve heard rumours suggesting there are moves to interfere in the Osun State election,” Davido wrote. “Allow the people of Osun to choose their candidate freely. My wife, Chioma, is from Imo… Let Osun remain peaceful.”

Governor Uzodimma, who serves as Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, was recently appointed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) as chairman of the party’s National Campaign Council for the Osun governorship election.
Davido has been actively involved in the campaign for the re-election of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, and has repeatedly called for a free, fair and violence-free electoral process. In recent months, the award-winning singer has publicly urged political actors to allow voters to determine the outcome of the election through the ballot box rather than intimidation or manipulation.
His latest remarks follow a series of public statements expressing concern over the political atmosphere in Osun State, where campaigns have intensified ahead of the off-cycle governorship poll. The election is expected to be closely contested and has attracted significant national attention.
Neither Governor Uzodimma nor the APC had publicly responded to Davido’s appeal at the time of filing this report. Additionally, Davido’s reference to “rumours” of possible interference has not been independently verified, and he did not provide evidence to support the claim.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies have repeatedly assured voters of their commitment to conducting a peaceful, credible and transparent election in Osun State.
