Kemi Adeosun mourns death of husband, Anthony Adeniyi Adeosun 


Former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has lost her husband, Anthony Adeniyi Adeosun, popularly known as Niyi, who died in Lagos at the age of 62.

The Adeosun family announced his passing in a statement released on Thursday, confirming that he died on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, after what they described as a life devoted to God, family and service. The statement was signed by C. A. Adeosun on behalf of the family.

According to the family, funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

In the statement, the family paid tribute to the late Anthony Adeosun, describing him as a devoted Christian, a loving husband and father, and a man whose life was marked by integrity, compassion and unwavering commitment to those around him.

Kemi Adeosun served as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance from November 2015 to September 2018 during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Before her appointment at the federal level, she was Commissioner for Finance in Ogun State and has remained active in business and public policy since leaving office.

News of Anthony Adeosun’s death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from political associates, business leaders and well-wishers, many of whom have expressed sympathy to the former minister and her family during this period of bereavement.

The family has requested privacy as they mourn their loss and prepare for the funeral rites.
