Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has pledged that the Atlas Lions will emerge stronger from their FIFA World Cup disappointment, insisting the team’s elimination will serve as motivation to build an even more competitive side for future international tournaments.
Speaking after Morocco’s exit from the competition, Ouahbi praised his players for their commitment and fighting spirit throughout the tournament despite falling short of their ultimate objective of progressing further.
The coach acknowledged the disappointment felt by the players, coaching staff, and millions of Moroccan supporters but stressed that the experience gained at the global showpiece would prove invaluable in the team’s continued development.
“We are naturally disappointed with the result because we came here with high ambitions,” Ouahbi said. “However, I am proud of the effort and determination shown by the players. We will learn from this experience and come back stronger.”
Morocco’s World Cup journey came to an end after a defeat to France in the knockout stage, bringing to a close an impressive campaign in which the North African side displayed resilience, tactical discipline, and attacking quality against some of the world’s top teams.
Throughout the tournament, the Atlas Lions earned widespread praise for their organised performances and competitive displays, reinforcing Morocco’s growing reputation as one of Africa’s leading football nations.
Ouahbi said the team’s progress should not be judged solely by the outcome of a single match, noting that Morocco’s recent achievements demonstrate the country’s steady development in international football.
He commended his players for representing their nation with pride and professionalism, adding that the coaching staff would carefully analyse the team’s performances to identify areas requiring improvement ahead of future competitions.
“Our responsibility now is to evaluate what went well and where we can improve. Every tournament provides lessons, and we will use them to become a better team,” the coach said.
The Moroccan tactician also expressed gratitude to the country’s supporters, whose unwavering backing throughout the tournament provided extra motivation for the players.
“The fans have been incredible from the beginning until the end. We appreciate their support, and we hope to make them even prouder in future competitions,” he added.
Despite the disappointment of elimination, Morocco’s performances once again highlighted the country’s growing strength on the international stage, following its historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where the Atlas Lions became the first African and Arab nation to reach the last four of the tournament.
Football analysts believe the current squad, which blends experienced internationals with emerging young talents, provides a solid foundation for Morocco as it prepares for upcoming continental and global competitions.
Ouahbi reiterated that the team’s focus would now shift to rebuilding, improving, and ensuring Morocco remains among the continent’s strongest footballing nations.
He expressed confidence that the setback would strengthen the players’ resolve and inspire them to achieve greater success in future tournaments, insisting that the Atlas Lions’ journey is far from over.
