Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a detribalised leader whose policies and appointments reflect a commitment to Nigeria’s unity rather than ethnic or regional interests.
Akume made the remarks while addressing stakeholders at a public event, where he defended the President against allegations of ethnic bias and insisted that the Tinubu administration remains focused on promoting national cohesion and inclusive governance. Reports of his comments were carried by several Nigerian media outlets.
According to the SGF, Tinubu’s decisions in government have consistently been guided by competence and the national interest, rather than considerations of ethnicity, religion or regional affiliation.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a detribalised leader. He believes in one Nigeria and is committed to ensuring that every part of the country benefits from his administration’s policies and programmes,” Akume said.
He urged Nigerians to support the administration’s efforts to address the country’s economic and security challenges, stressing that national development requires collective commitment beyond ethnic and political differences.
Akume also highlighted ongoing reforms under the Tinubu administration, saying the government is implementing policies aimed at stabilising the economy, improving infrastructure, expanding social investment programmes and strengthening security across the country.
The SGF maintained that while some of the reforms have imposed short-term difficulties, they are intended to place Nigeria on a path of sustainable economic growth and long-term prosperity.
His remarks come amid continued public debate over federal appointments and the distribution of political offices, with critics accusing the administration of favouring certain regions. The Presidency has repeatedly rejected such claims, insisting that appointments are based on merit, constitutional requirements and the need to ensure effective service delivery.
Akume reiterated that the Tinubu administration remains committed to fostering national unity, equitable development and inclusive governance, urging citizens to judge the government by its policies and performance rather than ethnic or regional narratives.
