Tinubu unveils 108-man APC Campaign Team ahead of 2027 election

President Bola Tinubu has constituted a 108-member Presidential Campaign Council for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election, with former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo named among those to mobilise support for his re-election bid.

The Presidency released the list on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Tinubu will serve as chairman of the campaign council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima will be vice chairman. APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda will also serve as a vice chairman.

Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdulaziz Yari, was appointed Director-General of the campaign council, while Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, will serve as secretary.

The council also includes APC National Secretary Ajibola Bashiru as deputy secretary and Hadiza Bala-Usman as assistant secretary.

Yobo, a former captain of the Nigerian national team and ex-Everton defender, was included in the campaign structure as Deputy Director, Sports Sector Mobilisation II.

His appointment brings a prominent figure from Nigerian football into the ruling party’s campaign machinery as it seeks to broaden its appeal among young people and sports stakeholders.

Yobo has in recent months featured prominently at government events and publicly commended the administration’s infrastructure efforts. In July, he praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for the pace of infrastructure development in Abuja and described the projects being commissioned in the capital as significant.

The campaign council has several senior political figures occupying strategic positions.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were named deputy director-generals responsible for campaign activities in the southern and northern parts of the country.

Senators Opeyemi Bamidele and Jibril Barau will work with them in the two zones, according to the Presidency.

Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole was appointed deputy director-general in charge of mobilisation, while Tinubu’s Chief of Staff will serve as deputy director-general for administration.

James Abiodun Faleke, who played a major role in the APC’s 2023 presidential campaign, returns as deputy director-general for election planning, coordination and monitoring.

Faleke will work with zonal directors, including Senator Olushola Adeyeye for the South-West, Dr Ngozi Olejeme for the South-South, Senator Uche Ekwunife for the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe for the North-West, Ahmed Mohammed Ketso for the North-Central and Senator Sani Danladi for the North-East.

The Presidency said Stella Okotete, Abdullahi Garba Ramat and Audu Maikori would serve as secretaries of the election planning directorate.

The President will also work with a group of senior political figures serving as advisers to the campaign council.

They include former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande, veteran journalist and politician Segun Osoba, former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, former Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Adamu and former senator Florence Ita-Giwa.

The constitution of the campaign council marks a major step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, as the ruling party begins to organise its nationwide mobilisation and campaign structures.

Tinubu is seeking a second term in office after securing the APC’s presidential ticket for the 2027 election. The APC formally retained Shettima as his running mate in July, completing the party’s presidential ticket for the poll.

The inclusion of political leaders alongside figures from sports and other sectors underscores the party’s effort to build a broad-based campaign structure ahead of the election.

The 108-member council is expected to coordinate the APC’s presidential campaign activities, including mobilisation, election planning, regional outreach and engagement with different sectors of the electorate.
