Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador to Israel, Ambassador Nkechi Ufochukwu, has formally assumed her diplomatic duties after presenting her letters of credence to Israeli President Isaac Herzog at the President’s Residence in Jerusalem.
The presentation of letters of credence marks the official commencement of Ambassador Ufochukwu’s tenure as Nigeria’s envoy to Israel and reaffirms the longstanding diplomatic relations between the two countries. The ceremony was confirmed by Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian Embassy in Israel.
During the ceremony, President Herzog welcomed the Nigerian ambassador and expressed optimism about strengthening bilateral ties between Israel and Nigeria in areas including trade, agriculture, technology, innovation, security and education.
Ambassador Ufochukwu conveyed the greetings of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Israel for mutual economic and developmental benefits.
She also pledged to work towards expanding diplomatic engagement, promoting investment opportunities and fostering stronger people-to-people relations between both nations.
Nigeria and Israel have maintained diplomatic relations since 1960, with cooperation spanning agriculture, healthcare, education, security, science and technology. In recent years, both countries have continued to explore opportunities for increased collaboration in innovation, digital technology and economic development.
The presentation of letters of credence follows the Federal Government’s deployment of a new batch of career and non-career ambassadors to Nigerian missions abroad as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s diplomatic engagement and foreign policy objectives.
As ambassador, Ufochukwu is expected to oversee Nigeria’s diplomatic mission in Israel, promote bilateral cooperation and safeguard the interests of Nigerian citizens residing in the country.
Her appointment comes at a time when Nigeria is seeking to deepen strategic partnerships with key international allies while expanding trade, investment and technological cooperation across various sectors.
