The Obi-Kwankwaso Movement has inaugurated its Cross River State executive members and unveiled its secretariat in Calabar as part of efforts to mobilise support for the 2027 general elections.
The ceremony, held on Saturday, August 29, was attended by leaders and stakeholders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), coordinators from the state’s 18 local government areas and supporters of the movement.
The movement is campaigning for Peter Obi as the NDC presidential candidate and Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate ahead of the 2027 election. Obi and Kwankwaso formally joined the NDC in May 2026 as part of the opposition realignment ahead of the poll.
National Convener of the movement, Jackie Wayas, described the opening of the Cross River office as the beginning of a new phase of political mobilisation in the state.
Wayas urged supporters to return to their wards and polling units to mobilise voters for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, stressing the need for grassroots participation ahead of the election.
The State Coordinator, Egwu Arong, said the secretariat would serve as a centre for organisation, coordination, documentation and grassroots mobilisation across the state.
According to him, the movement would focus on three areas: effective coordination from the state level down to polling units, peaceful mobilisation and engagement of youths, women and members of the informal sector, as well as discipline and respect for the law.
Arong also called on members to register voters and support NDC candidates at the polls, saying the movement was determined to build a strong electoral structure across Cross River.
The NDC State Chairman, Goddie Akpama, pledged the party’s cooperation with the movement and said the party was preparing to field candidates capable of addressing the country’s economic challenges through reforms and development initiatives.
Also speaking, the NDC Deputy Governorship Candidate in Cross River, Bishop Stella Archibong, urged supporters to translate their enthusiasm into electoral action.
“Our vote is our power,” Archibong said, calling on residents to participate actively in the 2027 elections and vote for NDC candidates.
The chairman of the planning committee, Cletus Amawu, said the movement would remain vigilant throughout the electoral process, stressing that supporters must ensure that their votes were cast, counted and protected.
The launch comes amid growing political activity in Cross River ahead of the 2027 elections, with the NDC seeking to strengthen its grassroots presence and attract supporters from other opposition platforms.
