The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the August 15, 2026 Osun State election, Bola Oyebamiji, has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his victory and urged him to prioritise the safety of residents as the state moves beyond the election.
Oyebamiji also condemned reported cases of post-election violence in the state and called for a thorough investigation into the killings, urging authorities to bring those responsible to justice.
Adeleke was declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), polling 511,067 votes against Oyebamiji’s 444,815 votes.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Oyebamiji congratulated Adeleke “in the spirit of democracy” and urged him, as governor and chief security officer of the state, to ensure the protection of lives and property across Osun.
He expressed concern over what he described as a surge in post-election violence, including reported killings of political party members and other residents.
Oyebamiji specifically condemned the deaths of former Irewole Local Government chairman Remi Abass, APC chairman in Atakumosa Local Government Area Gbenga Ogbara, Dele Ayegbo, who was identified as a nephew of his campaign director-general, Wole Oke, and other reported victims.
He called on the Nigeria Police Force to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incidents and ensure that anyone found responsible was prosecuted.
The APC candidate also expressed condolences to the families of those killed, saying the reported loss of lives was unacceptable and should not be allowed to continue.
Oyebamiji’s call came amid heightened tensions following the governorship election, with political actors urging supporters to maintain peace and avoid actions capable of further escalating violence.
Governor Adeleke had also pledged during the election period that a commission of inquiry would be constituted to investigate reported killings and acts of violence connected with the election.
Oyebamiji’s latest statement signals his acceptance of the election outcome while maintaining his call for accountability over the violence reported before and after the poll.
