Lara Kudayisi Don-Momoh, popularly known as Coach Lara and the wife of Teddy Don-Momoh, the widower of late Nigerian gospel singer Kefee, has died barely two weeks after the couple welcomed their first child together. The family announced her passing on Monday, describing it as a profound loss.
In a statement shared on Coach Lara’s official Instagram page, the family said she died peacefully after a brief illness.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, Lara Kudayisi Don-Momoh. After a brief illness, Coach Lara passed away peacefully,” the statement read.
The family appealed for privacy as they mourn her passing and requested prayers for the peaceful repose of her soul and for strength to cope with the loss.
They also said details of her funeral arrangements would be communicated at a later date.
Coach Lara’s death comes just weeks after she and Teddy Don-Momoh celebrated the birth of their first child together, a milestone that had attracted congratulatory messages from friends, colleagues and well-wishers.
Teddy Don-Momoh was previously married to celebrated gospel singer Kefee, whose full name was Evelyn Irikefe Don-Momoh. Kefee died in June 2014 in the United States following complications from a lung-related illness after spending days in a coma, an event that shocked Nigeria’s gospel music community.
News of Coach Lara’s passing has since triggered an outpouring of condolences on social media, with many expressing sympathy for Teddy Don-Momoh and the bereaved family as they navigate another painful chapter in their lives.
